Hill and representative Rich McCormick LED efforts to secure The freedom of Gambaryan, presenting a resolution in July 2024, urging his release. Hill visited him in prison and later described his health.

A Nigerian court rejected the accusations in October, allowing Gambaryan to return to the United States. He said:

“I am honored to be the guest of the Hill Congress,” said Gambaryan on X. “Otherwise for the Hill Congress, the member of the McCormick Congress, and the men and women who work hard from the Doj and the State Department, I would always be detained in Nigeria. I owe them my life.
