47 Ronin director allegedly scammed $11m from Netflix to buy DOGE, other crypto
Carl Erik Rinsch, director of the film 47 Ronin with Keanu Reeves, was responsible for fraud Netflix to buy cryptocurrencies and actions.
Rinsch, a director and screenwriter of Hollywood, was arrested and charged with fraud charges linked to an $ 11 million agreement with Netflix for a science fiction television series called “White Horse”.
According to the seven not sealed counts chargeRinsch obtained an investment set of $ 44 million in 2018 to finance the production of the show. Between 2019 and 2020, he obtained additional funding of $ 11 million, which was transferred to a company entirely controlled by him.
Rather than using the funds for White Horse, Rinsch would have moved the $ 11 million via a network of accounts and finally deposited funds in its personal brokerage account.
The indictment, announced by an American lawyer for the South New York Matthew Podolsky and Leslie Backschies, Deputy Director of the FBI New York Charter, says Rinsch illegally used funds to exchange cryptocurrencies and actions.
In the two months following his first trades, Rinsch would have lost more than half of the capital. The authorities also allege that he spent about $ 5.3 million by continuing Netflix for cash, paying credit card invoices and acquired a Ferrari sports car and five Rolls-Royces.
Despite its initial losses in the Crypto exchange, Rinsch would have reinvested in digital assets. According to charges, he made $ 27 million against an investment of $ 4 million in Dogecoin (DOGE). The funds were sent to a Kraken account through a Schwab bank deposit, according to a New York Times report.
Rinsch, now 47 years old, risks up to 20 years in prison for a wire fraud chief. Other accusations, including money laundering and illegal activities, could each include sentences from 10 to 20 years of age if the maximum sanctions are imposed by a Los Angeles court.
A hearing date has not yet been set. Rinsch was released on bail of $ 100,000 per order from the American judge Pedro V. Castillo.
