Ethereum to discontinue support for Holesky testnet in September
The developers of Ethereum interrupt the support for the Holesky Testnet in September due to the mass outing of the Validators, after disturbances during the Pectra upgrading tests.
According to the recent announcement On the blog of the Ethereum Foundation, support for developers for Ethereum ‘(Ethn) Holesky Testnet will be interrupted in September. Until then, developers will be able to test deposits, consolidations and other Pectra features on Holesky. However, developers are advised not to use Holesky to test the outputs of validators because the output queue is too long, which slows down the test process. Instead, output validator tests must be carried out on the new HOODI TESTSNETwhich will activate the Pectra upgrade March 26.
The decision to stop supporting Holesky comes after major problems arose during the Pectra upgrade testleading to a massive outing of network validators. While Holesky is again functional, the process of removing all the left validators will take approximately a year, which hinders the use of the test test to test scenarios involving validators’ outings.
Holesky’s sunset is remarkable because it has been a main test to test the upgrade features of the Ethereum network for more than 2 years, since its launch in September 2023. The end of life has been scheduled for September 30. However, the testnet could be reused To test the gas limit increases and other protocol tests.
Priori of Holesky, the developers Ethereum had already laid down several time tests, namely OvenRinkebery, Ropstenand Goerli.
