Australian Federal Police warn of Binance impersonation scam targeting locals

Australian federal police have launched an investigation into a major cryptography scam where fraudsters presented themselves as representatives of Binance to defraud the inhabitants.

In a joint statementAFP, the National Anti-Scam Center and Binance Australia, revealed that the scam had been discovered by the FireTorm operation, a global repression of digital fraud. They warned that more than 130 potential victims had already been targeted in the program.

Crook posed as representatives of the Binance And contacted the victims with false warnings, saying that their Binance accounts had been raped.

Using encrypted messaging platforms and SMS, the bad players sent “usurped” messages that seemed from the official Binance channels. These messages have often appeared in existing binance chat threads, which makes them even more legitimate.

The victims received false verification codes and a support number, which led them directly to crooks pretending to be Binance representatives. Once on the call, they were in a hurry to move their crypto to a so -called “trusted portfolio” – which was in fact controlled by fraudsters.

As the victims realized that something was wrong, the funds were “transferred through a network of portfolios and money laundering accounts, making crises or recovery difficult,” said the authorities.

AFP cybercrime operations, Graeme Marshall, have urged victims who may have transferred funds to the “so-called trust portfolio” to report the incident to their bench or to an crypto exchange and to the police via Reportcyber.

“AFP worked closely with our NASC partners to ensure that all the victims in Australia targeted by these crooks were identified quickly and gave advice to help protect their cryptocurrency accounts,” he added.

As one of the biggest names in the crypto, Binance was a frequent target for crooks who seek to exploit its users.

A warning from the Cyprus police in February 2025 underlined a similar scamWhere fraudsters have sent false SMS alerts to unauthorized connections to Binance accounts to encourage users to hand over their identification information.

In response, the Binance would be Work on new security feature To help users detect SMS phishing scams. However, details on the new feature remain rare.
