US government seizes crypto tied to Hamas terrorist financing

The US Ministry of Justice seized about $ 201,400 of cryptocurrency linked to Hamas.

This seizure was part of a terrorist financing operation which has turned more than $ 1.5 million in virtual currency since October 2024, according to the DOJ.

According to court documents, Hamas supporters used a encrypted platform to distribute at least 17 cryptocurrency addresses for donations. The funds were bleached by exchanges and brokers before being channeled in operational wallets.

The crisis targeted assets held in the accounts registered with Palestinian people in Türkiye and other places.

“Hamas is responsible for the death of many American and Israeli nationals, and we will use all the legal tools at our disposal to stop their campaign of terror and murder”, ” said American lawyer Edward R. Martin, Jr.

FBI’s special agent Raul Bujanda described the crisis to make a crucial step in the disruption of the Hamas financial network, stressing that the reduction in funding weakens the group’s operational capacities.
