Crypto exchnage Bithumb alerts customers following data breach at Korea’s largest carrier

Bithumb issued a security warning to its Korean users following a large data leak at SK Telecom, the largest mobile operator in South Korea.

South Koreacryptocurrency exchange Bithumb Alerted its customers after a data violation at SK Telecom, the largest mobile operator in the country, raising concerns concerning the potential risks for user accounts, which prompted the exchange to strengthen security and accelerate surveillance.

In a press release Bithumb said on Thursday that he was monitoring an unusual activity and implemented additional protections to prevent unauthorized access. The exchange also urged users to act immediately to protect their accounts and increased security protocols in light of the incident.

Telecom SK confirmed The violation, explaining that data leakage was linked to malware. The carrier revealed that this had detected signs of violation on April 19, which had an impact on customer -related data.

After detecting the breach, SK Telecom deleted the malicious software and isolated suspected hacked devices, reassuring customers that no abusive use of disclosed information has been confirmed so far. “However, to avoid other damage, SK Telecom has implemented several preventive measures, including a system survey and reinforced attempts to block illegal SIM exchanges and abnormal authentication.

Founded in 1984, SK Telecom is the largest mobile operator in South Korea with around 31.5 million mobile subscriptions, representing around 37.5% of the country’s total mobile subscriptions.
