Over $90M stolen from Iran’s Nobitex exchange burnt by hacker
After breaking the greatest Crypto exchange in Iran, the group of pro-Israeli pirates Gonjeshke Darande said it had destroyed more than $ 90 million in digital active ingredients from Nobitex wallets.
In a June 18 update Via X, the group said that it had burned the funds on several blockchains using “vanity addresses” which do not contain recoverable private keys, which actually makes assets inaccessible.
This follows the high level exploit de Nobitex, in which more than $ 90 million in Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (Ethn), Dogecoin (DOGE), and other tokens were drained with hot wallets. The attackers had initially designed violation as a direct response to the alleged role of Nobitex by helping the Iranian regime to circumvent sanctions and finance terrorism.
The group, also known as Sparrow predatory, equaled the hacking of the military and cyber-teens in progress between Iran and Israel, which intensified following Israeli air strikes on the nuclear sites of Tehran a few days earlier. The blockchain safety platforms such as the chain-analysis quickly confirmed that stolen assets had not been transferred to mixers or exchanges, but rather to irremediable addresses with inflammatory labels.
Some of the addresses included sentences such as “fuckirgterroistesnobitex”, targeting the body of the Islamic Revolution of Iran. A bitcoin portfolio used in the attack is proven unstable due to its non -valid amount of control. On Ethereum, tokens were sent to the burning address “0x … dead” commonly used to remove the offer permanently.
In response, Nobitex has published a new statement recognizing the burn. The exchange said that user assets are safe in cold storage and that the situation is now under control. Nobitex said that as a precaution, his staff had also emptied hot wallets. He reiterated that no customer fund would be lost, citing his reserve fund and his insurance pool.
The attackers also threatened to release the source code and the internal infrastructure data of Nobitex, which could aggravate the situation of Iran leading Cryptocurrency platform, which has more than 11 million users. Gonjeshke Darande warned that any active on the platform would be in danger if users did not retire immediately.
Despite no financial motivation, the hack has large -scale implications. The intentional destruction of more than $ 90 million digital money shows how conflicts at the state level have transformed cryptographic infrastructure into a new battlefield.
