Coinbase unveils Base App for social, payments, and trading

Coinbase has taken a major step towards starting everyday users with the launch of the basic application, a new product that combines trading, social media, payments and discovery of applications in a single platform.

THE announcement was manufactured on July 16 at the company’s “A New Day One” event, where it introduced the basic application as a brand change and a major expansion of its Coinbase portfolio. Built on the basic layer 2 network, the new application will offer an experience of transparent onchain centered on the USD part (USDC) Payments, social commitment and decentralized applications.

Coinbase describes the basic application as a place where users can publish, discuss, send money, exchange and earn, all without leaving the interface. Social characteristics are fueled by StuffAllowing creators to publish content, gain income directly and transport their identity between applications.

Each message is treated as an asset to collect, using Zora (Zora) Protocol, allowing users to support creators directly via advice and purchases.

The application also incorporates basic remuneration, a new payment feature that allows users to pay in the USDC through supported Platforms, starting with Shopify Merchants. Coinbase says that the functionality will bring close and free transactions to transform the USDC into a standard payment method for digital trade.

In addition to these features, the basic application introduces an identity of universal onchain via a “basic account”, which replaces complex portfolio configurations with a single connection. Users can explore mini applications directly from their flow, ranging from games to prediction markets, without additional downloads.

The basic application now takes place in beta to users of the waiting list. Coinbase positions it as a bridge so that more people access and use crypto in daily life, without having to switch between different tools or services.
