Cosmos developers finalize the first IBC transaction with Ethereum testnet

Crypto VC funding: Figure leads with $200m raise, Ethena Labs nabs $100m

Cosmos’ development team successfully led the first inter-blockchain communication transaction directly between Cosmos Hub and Ethereum.

March 26, Co-PDG of Cosmos (ATOM) Maghnus mareneck announcement that they succeeded in the first IBC transaction between the central blockchain of Cosmos, Cosmos Hub and Ethereum (Ethn). This test is part of the largest Eureka upgradeScheduled for the release as part of IBC-GO V10 later this year.

Cosmos’ IBC protocol allows independent blockchains to communicate and transfer assets and data with each other. The protocol was activated in March 2021, after the development team managed to finalize the Stargate upgrade. Since then, many blockchains in the cosmos ecosystem, including Terra, Osmose and Akash, have integrated the IBC, allowing active transfers and communication between these channels.

Today’s test is remarkable because it is the first IBC connection directly between Cosmos Hub and Ethereum. However, it should be noted that previous efforts have already connected external blockchains to the cosmos via indirect routes. In April 2024, Picasso Network ease an IBC connection between Cosmos and Ethereum, and later between Cosmos and Solana. Earlier, composable funding bridge Polkadot and Kusama with Cosmos. Cosmos’ ultimate goal is to make IBC a universal standard for blockchain communication.
