XRP outpaces top coins with 10% spike

The price of XRP rose sharply to surpass the top 10 cryptocurrencies by market capitalization as the altcoin appeared to start 2025 on a winning note.

On January 1, the Ripple XRP token (XRP) traded at a high of $2.32, up more than 10% in the last 24 hours.

These gains put XRP as the top gainer of the day, above the other 10 major coins.

In the top 100 coins by market capitalization, only Stellar (XLM), which ranked 18th at the time of writing, had higher earnings. According to price data from crypto.news, XLM was changing hands around $0.4, up more than 29% in the last 24 hours.

XRP’s rise pushed the altcoin’s weekly performance into the green after recent bearish action. At the same time, market capitalization soared to over $132 billion and daily trading volume increased by over 36% to $6.3 billion.

Over the past 24 hours, XRP has fluctuated between $2.08 and $2.32. Although the coin saw notable gains on the day, it remains down over 14% over the past 30 days. However, with sentiment largely optimistic for 2025, bulls could imagine having the chance to reach a new all-time high which is currently about 38% off the 2018 high of $3.40.

XRP rose by double digits despite Ripple’s wallet receiving 300 million XRP worth over $649 million. Whale alert highlighted the transaction on January 1st via X.

The transfer is part of the monthly escrow unlock for XRP, and it will take place in a month when United States President-elect Donald Trump takes office. His election victory and his pro-crypto stance are one of the catalysts that contributed to the rise in the price of XRP.
